Just to suggest a question, if you were the commanding officer of this regiment, how would you go about making such a report? It wouldn't have been possible to make a report until after the surrender. Any regimental rolls taken from Petersburg were probably captured or burned on the retreat to Appomattox. All surviving papers have been turned over to the Yankees.

Suppose you decide to make a report based on memory alone. What do you do with it when you're finished? By April 10, 1865, the Confederate government (including the War Department) was in flight towards North Carolina. How will you deliver it? On this date in history, is anyone interested in the casualties of a regiment that no longer exists that fought for a government that no longer governs a country?
