Bruce:

Good deal. Hope you locate the desired information.

I have compiled a list of the historical home guard battalion designations for the Home Guard by NC County - primarily derived from Bradley's order book compilations. As you may know, the home guard was originally organized into battalions - typically one per county although some of the less populated counties were consoldated with those of surrounding counties. If you have an interest in a particular county, I'd be glad to share that battalion identity with you should you not be familiar with it.

Further complicating the matter, there were four classes of the Home Guard depending upon the member's physical capabilities, availability to serve, and military need. Near the end of the war the battalion system was eliminated and all home guard battalions were apparently merged into two regiments enumerated as the 1st and 2nd Regiments NC Home Guard. I am aware of one of the field officers appointed to the 2nd Regt. NC Home Guard, that being Major John W. Lee, 1827-1900 who is buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh NC and I have the identities of a number of field grade officers of the respective earlier battalions of the NC Home Guard at hand if there's a particular officer of interest.

Regards . . .
