Today his great-grandson said he always wondered if the story of the wounding and about Lee's horse had any truth in it at all, or if it was simply an old family fiction. I will print out the rest of the information to turn over to him and his many children & grandchildren who are interested in their ancestry.
Thank you for your ideas about when the wounding occurred, and the length of time for the healing. I really didn't know what was a typical recovery time for that type of injury, under their wartime conditions.
