Ashe County Civil War Veterans

In a listing I found on line of Ashe County Civil War Veterans there are some names listed with very little information. They list their names and ages at the 1860 County census but nothing about any units they might have belonged to.

WILCOXSON, MARTIN, 20, 1860 AsCC HH#25.

WILCOXSON, WILLIAM, 14, 1860 AsCC HH#24.

WILCOXSON, WILLIAM, 42, 1860 AsCC HH#24.

Two of these men, Martin, 20; and William, 42 may be ancestors of mine. I know my great grandfather Martin Vanburen Wilcoxson/Wilcox would have been that age in 1860 and his father William would have been that age also in 1860.

I am thinking that the person who put this listing together put names on the list based on being of an eligable age during the Civil War period. Could I be correct? I have found none of the above names on any unit Ashe County soldiers served in.

I know Ashe County was split about 50/50 in sympathy for the Confederacy and Union. There is a book written on the subject but I have not read it yet. Martin Wilcoxson/Wilcox may have been one of those 50% Union symphathizers since he named one of his sons General Grant Wilcox. Ironically Grant married the oldest child of Felix Parks McGuire, Cornelia Alice. Great Grandfather Felix served in Company b 65th NC Troops (6th NC Cavalry).
