Re: Ashe County Civil War Veterans

The thing is, I did not use any census myself for the list of my ancestors. The list on my original post came from a web site listing Ashe County Civil War Veterans. My supposition was the person who compiled this list included all men of the appropriate age when compiling their list. I was doubtful either of these direct ancestors, father and son, ever served since there is no record of either of them in any unit Ashe County men are known to serve in. Or at least neither I nor any knowledgible historian has found either of them on any unit roster.

I think these two ancestors were part of the roughly 50% of Ashe County residents who were Union loyalists. I do appreciate the research done on my two Wilcox/Wilcoxson/Wilcockson ancestors. At leeast I found one direct ancestor from Watauga and one from Ashe, both of who served in the 65th NC Troops (6th NC Cavalry).
