Re: CW History of the Christians and Stokes of N.C

I was interested in your references to the Christian family. I am descended from Susan Christian in Jones or Crawford County, Ga., who was born around 1843 and married a Michael Bird. The name was changed later to Byrd.

I think she was descended from Hardy Christian (Hardy Christian, who died in 1860 in Jones County, Ga. at the age of 80, who had lived at Hayward N.C. in the early part of 1800s., according Mr.Griswold in History of Jones County. His brothers may have been Ruch, Henry and Lewis. Ruch had a son, Hardy Christian
II, born 1838, who served in the 45th Ga. Regiment. (Roster of the
Confederate Soldiers of Ga., 1861-1865), Volume 4, page 881. He was a
second sergeant March 4, 1862. Appointed first sergeant. Surrendered at
Appomatox, Va. April 9, 1865. I believe a picture of him can be found on the Web, taken in Hahira, Ga. several years after the Civil War.

I was wondering if you had come across any details about the Bird/Byrd connection with the Christian family.

Thanks for your information on Henry Christian. It was interesting.
