David, I've been deep into the Mims book. What a find! Thank you. It is a special treat to see the words and works of hubbys Stiggens grandfather used in this way. I'm getting a much better picture of the whole thing now. On page 93 where it gives the possible reasons Weatherford went with the Redsticks and not with his 'white' side, the words used could well apply to what may have been the reasons Robert E. Lee went with the South. Same type of conflicted situation. The Claiborn story is interesting too. I had forgotten how long that family had been in the 'area'. Looking at rosters for the Baldwin County and other south Alabama area units in the CW, the names stick out so one can see these familiy members had war stories for almost every generation.
