Re: Why Americans fight...European view

A slightly different view - I think at the time you are drafted or enlist, you have one set of reasons to fight and they concern country, family, everyone is doing it, its the right thing to do and peer pressure.

However, once you find yourself in a serious fire fight where you could die in the next second - you fight to survive, to protect your buddies right next to you and out of a visceral hate for the enemy.
