By and large, the regular soldier took their cue from Lee and Grant; and yes, even from Lincoln's "Let 'em up easy." They forgave each other and went on with their lives. Missouri is the exception that proves the rule. There was just too much animosity from the guerilla struggles that started before the war.

And did you ever notice that heroes, to a man, or woman, say the real heroes are the ones who did not make it. They all say the medal is for them. Stan
