Re: The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down

Wow! Chief, watching the Man in Black singing around that campfire surely brought back memories...those scenes were shot in back of his recording studio, in the early 70s. I was the assistant cameraman. I worked for Provence Productions at the time, for Jerry Crowder. He was another Combat Camera guy, and was married to a Japanese woman. We got a contract to go up to Nashville and shoot opening and closing scenes for the TV show, "Riding the Rails". We shot those songs behind the studio n Hendersonville, There was a railroad track right there. I think the young Confederate soldiers were local reenactors. Of course, they never use all you shoot, but those songs made it. Mr. Cash was a very nice man. What you saw was what he was. I reloaded film magazines in his dressing room. He had about a dozen of those black shirts he wore hanging behind the door, plus some dark grey ones. They were thick, soft wool. He had an old black Cadillac parked nearby. Kris Kristopherson showed up that afternoon, driving a beat up white Volkswagon. LOL Stan
