Excellent post.
I can relate to all that you said. Nothing like a little research to fill in the missing pieces and make you really appreciate the song.
One point please: the South did rise again.
We did it through education and time.
My own grandfather who was the son of a CSA veteran would have been thrilled to know how well we are all living and then to have educations to go with it would have been beyond his wildest dreams.
