It was the 19th Century North Texas version of 'Peace with Honor'. There was no peace in the Peace Society and no honor in killing them. That is the kind of legacy that really bothers me, Southerners betraying Southerners and killing each other and so forth.

These were people who genuinely loved one another and united against threats from hostile Indians for decades. Then, their country was invaded by the juggernaught yankee army and it all went to hell.
