I had not heard of any anti-Mason political movement, per se, and would be interested in whatever you might post on the movement.

From my own readings, I will take a pure guess and say if such a movement existed, it may have found its inspiration in one or more traditional religions on the grounds that the Masonic Orders were so secretive and the Masons were held to such a high standard of secrecy that (another guess) some (a local Baptist or two I am aware of from those days) felt either intimidated, or uncomfortable or even doubtful about their Masonic neighbor's loyalties.

At any rate, I think you might find that in some communities, Masons were either discouraged or prohibited from joining certain churches.

Sorry, I cannot be more specific in place of all my 'guesses,' 'may haves,' 'eithers' and 'might finds,' but I just do not have any better information than a few educated guesses on this subject about which not much seems to show up in local histories.
