To get a true picture one must read " Retreat from Gettysburg". The Federal pursuit was as aggresive as possible. One cannot forget that the AOP had been on the move since 21Jun63 in pursuit of ANV. Then fought the battle. Meade was short on ammo and devoid of food. Then there was the inclement weather. Meade still almost cut them off before they got across the Potomac. It was very touch and go for the ANV. It is a great book and I highly recommend it. John
