You are correct in this matter. Do you remember when the Books and Media board opened I recommended this book. It puts it all in perspective, the difficulties Meade encountered in following up on Lee's retreat. You have to remember Hooker/Meade had been in hot pursuit of the ANV. The AOP far outpaced their own supply trains in the pursuit north to Gettysburg. The ANV had been lounging in Maryland and Pennsylvania for some time. Meade had at least 3 of his infantry corps who were out of service. He had all his wounded and the Confederate wounded and prisoners. He had no commissary and little ammo left. Then the rains came. I believed like everyone else, that the pursuit was bungled. Read the book and I'm willing to bet that drink at NAS Pensacola and I'll sing "Anchors Aweigh" that you will see it differently. John
