I guess one could state that Pershing, as the Commander of the AEF "sent" these men to their death but in the end we would just be comparing apples to oranges, IMHO. Still, the numbers are grim no matter how we look at it.
FYI... I was just using the source of reference as starting point to numbers. I have not looked over that site in detail so take it for what its worth and don't think of my using their numbers as an endorsement of any kind.
