Confederate Reconstruction...and other oddities
In Response To: Tsk Tsk ()

"the only unionist areas to suffer from the war were those in the South...east KY, east TN,etc. Talk about Reconstruction. From what I've seen these areas got Confederate Reconstruction...crummy roads, utilities, work projects, whatever. Talked to a few old times and they agreed that those parts of the State got the shaft from their states governments." [Chase]

Nope I see nothing in there about N.C., Social Security or Kirby Smith.

If you want to change the subject how about West Virginia? A state formed from territory stolen (actually they say they went and R-U-N-N-O-F-T) from Virginia by Unionist. Here is a sample of a self determined, soveriegn state, run entirely by Southern Appalachian Unionist since it was seceded from its mother state.

In 2005 West Virginia fought for the bottom ring in per capita income only edging out Arkansas (49) and Mississippi (50). It also ranks last in median household income (Mississippi just beat it, and Arkansas whipped it). The proportion of West Virginia's adult population with a bachelor's degree is the lowest in the U.S. at 15.3%.

It is known for its "crummy roads, utilities, work projects, whatever" for example...

36% of West Virginia's roads are in poor or mediocre condition.

19% of West Virginia's bridges are structurally deficient or functionally obsolete.

Vehicle travel on West Virginia's highways increased 23% between 1991 and 2001.

Driving on roads in need of repair costs West Virginia motorists $364 million a year in extra vehicle repairs and operating costs - $277 per motorist.

25% of municipal solid waste is recycled in West Virginia.

67% of West Virginia's schools have at least one inadequate building feature.

82% of West Virginia's schools have at least one unsatisfactory environmental condition.

West Virginia's drinking water infrastructure need is $1 billion over the next 20 years.

West Virginia's wastewater infrastructure need is $1.7 billion.

There are 40 state-determined deficient dams in West Virginia.

The rehabilitation cost for West Virginia's most critical dams is estimated at $324.2 million.

Conditions are so bad FEMA has had to help it with its FEMA Infrastructure Assistance program in 2005.

Now can you blame this economic and quality of life condition on pro-Confederates, ex-Confederates or how you say "Confederate Reconstruction [Copy Rights held by Chase- patent pending]"?
