That's a cool story. That's living history at it's best. Was the overall response from the public positive? There is a very good reenactment unit in upstate new York called The Columbia Rifles. On their event calendar they have a deal coming up in April 2008 in Richmond. The are going to recreate the occupation of the city and garrison the Confederate White House and the adjacent Museum of The Confederacy. In addition I think their plan is to post some units throughout town to simulate the Union occupation. I'm working with some fellow reenactors here in Richmond to give them a little surprise and some resistance when they get here. This is not part of the "official" activities. Hope we don't end up in the pokey. hehehe.
