I knew Shelby went to Mexico to drum up support, and I know there was a lot going on that we will never understand, because it isn't wrote in a history book. I also understand part of why Shelby and his men wouldn't surrender, because they couldn't. Having fought side by side with the bush whackers, society wouldn't let them come back home after the war. Jesse and Frank James went to Lexington Missouri to surrender (under a white flag) and were fired upon. They escaped, but Jesse was shot.
