Were the Southern states coordinating secession?

I would doubt that South Carolina intended to "go it alone" against the might of the Federal Union, so I'm curious, is anyone aware of communications between the Plantation or Deep South states prior to the official ordnance votes for secession? Did SC know that the other six states would follow shortly after their departure?
