Here's a discussion starter that occurred to me yesterday. We know that the majority, almost all, of the post-Civil War presidents through William McKinley were former Union Army generals and officers. Do you believe it was better for a peaceful reunification of North and South to be administered by these men or would men from the private or purely political sector have been better?
