Re: Union Soldiers as Presidents

I cannot say it was less bloody than other wars. It just cannot be. There were christian acts and generals but there were also the cold-blooded killers too, lots of them. There were the sadist like General Butler. There were too many deaths, too many atrocities and too much destruction to say it was a 'good' war.

Yes, what war is ever good? Even WW2, how good was that for the many millions who died? However, I wish, in the interests of equality and equal blame-sharing, that you had mentioned some Southern sadist, such as Bill Anderson or Wm Quantrill, just to mention one or two quickly off the top of my head.

But I really do think you would have to say it was less sanguinary than our current situation in the Middle East. However you may feel about our involvement in that war, when was the last time you heard that all prisoners, as in every one, were beheaded or otherwise barbarically executed by their captors?

I don't think the Yankees, as the faux Christians that perhaps some in the South thought they were, would've gone to that extreme. And that's my point.

As tough as it was for the South, you should thank your lucky stars that you weren't conquered (Innes Randolph's term) by the Japs (gasp!) or al-qaeda.

You think the Yanks were mean. Ha!
