No one's excusing anyone or anything. If that's how you read it, well, that's how you read it. As for grand strategy, who knows? Maybe they dug them up to install a sunken battery in the best possible location. I never heard that they burned the bodies but thought they reburied them someplace else.

But all this has been an education, quite beyond the old Hollywood Civil War movies that don't really reveal the full picture.

At the same time I quite clearly see that the palpable bitterness and hatred that these events STILL engender in some today is, in my view, physically and emotionally unhealthy. But I guess that's why we come here. At least here there's a chance that somebody else will give a damn and help us commiserate.

So, would you say the regrets of your side are more in line with sins of omission, or sins of commission?
