I had a lengthy discussion with a UDC friend yesterday about Longstreet. I think part of the reason he became the target of so much criticism was that he wasn't a Virginian. After Jackson's death it has been discussed that Lee made a point of filling top spots with Virginia officers. I'm a big Longstreet fan. He and Mosby both worked to get Grant elected President. And Longstreet was "best Man" at Grant's wedding.
