I grew up with my Grandfather who was a real son. I've been able to document all the war stories that he told me his father told him.

Actually there was a lot of publicity about the "Last" Confederate Widow dieing some years back in Alabama. Which was true as far as anyone knew at that time. But during the UDC Convention in Richmond following that ladys death they were having a Memorial rememberence service and one of the men there spoke up and said "She not the last Confederate Widow, my mother is still alive."

Upon investigation, sure enough the lady had documents including a marriage license which verified that at the age of 18 she had married an 80 year old gentleman who had served in the Confederate Army. They had no children, but she remarried after his death and had children. The last I heard was that she was still living 2 years ago. And I haven't heard of her passing.
