Her grandfather was a Joe Holcomb and he had a brother John....but I think the Yanks wrote it Halcomb. That's the way my second cousins up here spell it. Though back in the hills it's Holcomb or even Holcombe. They were all from Harlan KY. My grandfather James Fyodor Turchin made a trip to Harlan and met his wife Mary Halcomb. He however soon missed Ohio....imagine that :-0 ... and as Hank Williams might say, he tucked his in-laws...Mary's two brothers...up underneath his arms and scat on back to his pappy's farm around Lancaster Ohio...birthplace of W.T. Sherman.

One thing about him impressed his mountain in-laws...he could put away the hard stuff....that Russian grew up on Vodka..lol
