Its not uncommon for re-enactors to galvanize. In fact, some northern groups WANT to portray Confederate. I am a CW living historian and it is common for Northern groups to portray Confederates. It is also common for Southern groups to portray Federals.

I belong to the 2nd SC Rifles, and we also portray the 16th Michigan. When a re-enactment is held, its normal for the host regiment to portray Union. At least that has been the norm since I started. We are portraying history for the public and trying to inspire a renewed interest in our American heritage.
