Frank....read Rhea's book "The Wilderness". When camps were broken on both sides of the Rapidan in the spring of 1864, Grant had more head of cattle (over 60,000) than Lee had effective soldiers (near 56,000). But then again The Wilderness, Spotsylvania, and Cold Harbor showed that tenacity and shear will, sometimes overcomes numbers.
