Re: Official U.S. Policy on Confederate POW's
Where is this discussion going? Are we trying to determine if an actual program or laws existed to torture and starve Confederate prisoners? Are these postings insinuating that the North was innately evil and desired to kill and torture everyone in the South? I'm fully aware of the poor treatment of Confederate prisoners, but all I have ever read, seems to point to a faulty system, apathy and cruel individuals/camp commanders, as responsible for the excessive loss of life. If there is evidence that orders were written to starve or torture, I'd be interested to see them.
