You're saying that the Southern states should not have declared their independence until they had a viable plan for prisoners of war. Of course an exchange cartel agreed on by both governments operated quite well until the U.S. put an end to it.
I have to ask -- should Thomas Jefferson and other signers of the Declaration of Independence have waited until the colonies were better prepared to sustain a long civil war against the United Kingdom and its supporters in America?
