I think the same way you do Jamie. For five years I helped my best friend piece together her GGGrandfather's records. It wasn't easy. His was one of those that just had bits and pieces and it took a while to figure it out. Anyway, when we went to the Alabama Archives to do some research on others and found they had his unit flag under glass. I took a picture of it and the photo turned out with her reflection showing on the front of the flag. She was in tears because that's the only thing that she has ever seen that 'connects' to that Grand. Our Friend on the Alabama board does a very nice job of preservation. Just viewing something tangible is more meaningful to some of us because we never knew the man. Those flags are more poweful than many would believe.
