What I am seeing is the real possibility that the secession movement was started by one elitest group (apparently not well liked by a lot of Southerners) and then taken over by a massive grassroots movement across the South. That could explain why people like Breckinridge and Lane are not remembered as leading a movement they initiated, in fact, nobody is remembered as the secessionist leader. The tone of the New Orleans paper will change...just watch.
