Phillip Caro married Mary Ann Weaver of Baltimore. He was a bar pilot and so were his sons. Phillip had the packet that ran the coast for a while til some roads were made more passable. Those are things I have found documented. Phillip was in the square when Jackson removed the Spanish Flag from the pole and ran up the American Flag. Phillip was also there when the Confederate Flag was taken down when the Union took over the town. I don't know if you remember the old Perry House at the Bayou Chico drawbridge. It was red, and a seafood place. That was the house Phillip Caro built and raised his family in.
I have found mention of Farragut stopping here before going into Mobile Bay. I have not been able to locate anything on his taking Phillip along. Wish I knew if it was fact or fiction.
I'd think it possible since Mobile is further North and there's a lot more water to navigate from that pass by Ft Morgan/Gaines than we have. Don't care what flag they were flying. It had to be an awesome sight to see those ships come sailing into the bay.
