I've seen links to court cases with Joseph E's ( my 3xGrandpa) name in searches and they ended up with him as the clerk. That's what he did. Recorded records. Transcribed the original Spanish records to English for Escambia County and Mobile County.
I think some of the report you found does have to do with the original Rivas Grant and possibly 4xGGrandmother Maria Machado Caro's grant that was where Ft George is on Palafox St.
Then there's that time that Jos. E's brother Ambrosio killed his brother Gregario in a fight in a saloon. Knifed him he did. There are some other things too. Jos.E's sister Catherine married Daniel Duvall in Mobile and he had her declared insane and sent her and the kids off to a nunnery in Cuba. Took her property cause he could since she was crazy. [I think it was pms myself]. That was 4xGGrandpa Benito Caro's property in downtown Mobile. I know you know where Duvall St is. Caro's never got that back either.
Anyway---this is the wild n crazy family that ties into the Humphrey's (Charleston Arsenal) line hubby is from. Oh, Jos E's brother Sebastian was hubbys 3xGGrandfather too.
This case began just before the CW broke out. I have some of the court documents on testimony but the parts that were pro Caro have been "lost". That's what they said at the clerks office. That's what they said at the hysterical society resource room. "Lost". I think I smell a rat.
