I don't remember where I read this, but have seen it borne out in pictures of Yankee and Confederate dead. It was noted that Northern soldiers filled with gas and bloated far more than Confederate dead. It was supposed that the difference in diet caused this varience. Since from all accounts, the northern diet consisted of richer foods, including fats, than that of the Southern soldier, who ate more vegetables and less meat, this conclusion is entirely possible. Pictures of various dead of both sides, accounting for the passage of time in some cases, seem to bear this out. Any thoughts, folks who may have studied this phenomenon? Stan
