Re: When East-Tenn. Went to War- to fight slaves

The SouthEast was a bit of a boiling pot for a lot of years and for a whole lot of reasons. Mr O'Hara was correct, "it is all about the land." The actions of the 'leaders' and others make for a complex telling of the story. The patterns repeat and reverse. I find this period as interesting as the Civil War era. The people, the ethnic backgrounds, all made it a really full pot of stew. The political dance around the fact that they were just plain stealing land is an epic tale. No matter what the Nationality of the 'residents in chief', they still believed it was ok to just move in and take over. It's a wonder there wasn't a huge number of slave revolts in these early years.
