Re: Photographs of slaves and dead Rebels

The political use of the "whipped slave" photograph reminds me of the War images. As I posed once before, why are nearly all of the dead soldier photos Confederates? We all know there was no shortage of KIA Union soldiers. Did the civilian photographers take it upon themselves to focus only on Confederate soldiers when they took these photographs? Did the Union Army, under some politician's direction, confiscate photos of dead Yankees? Imagine how much more unpopular the War would have been in the North if people on the homefront could see the carnage of their people. There must be some explanation in the archives. The only notion that makes sense to me, at this time, is the photographers did not arrive on the battlefield for days and usually only when there was a Union victory. The Union soldiers may have been buried before the photographers arrived on scene.
