Re: Photographs of slave whippings

That is the point that I am trying to make. Why just the one example Photograph? And why was he Whipped?

This is sort of like the modern day Chemical Weapons and WMD's never found in Iraq. We know that Saddam probably had them at one time, But did he have them when we went to War?

I am sure that the Photograph of "Gordon" was the product of the Abolishionist zeal. And yes this one example is horrible. But why aren't there others? Certainly there are reports in the Slave Narratives taken in the 1930's that some of the former slaves had witnessed whippings. But if whippings were as wide spread as is proported, and as we are now days lead to believe, occurred on a daily basis for no reason at all, Examples of mans inhumanity to other men, then why were other examples not photographed and documented?

Can one picture of questionable origins be taken as proof of a general curtural practise or behavior?
