Something I learned today

I never knew that servants and whites attended the same church during the 1850 in deep Mississippi.

The following are a few minutes of Ebenezer Baptist Church Minutes, Amite County, Mississippi.

"March 18, 1855: A door of the Church was opened for the
reception of Members. Ceily, a Servant of B. F. Dixon, offered
to the church and was received by experience. D. A. Faust, C.C."

"June 21, 1857: Two servants belonging to Mrs. Zilpha Chance &
Mr. Taylor White were baptised."

"December 18, 1858: The baptist church of Christ at Ebenezer met
in conference. The Mo. being absent Bro. L. Perkins was
appointed Mo. Pro Tem. Bro. Thos. Talbert stated to the Church
that he was guilty of using profane language, for which he was
sorry and wished the Church to forgive him Which the Church
accordingly did. Bro. Peter A. Green made a statement to the
Church of a difficulty he had with a runaway negro in attempting
to arrest him, Which difficulty resulted in the death of the
negro by the hands of Bro. Green. On motion the case was taken
up by the Church. Moved and seconded Bro. Green is excluded from
the fellowship of this church. Said motion was laid on the table
until next conference. Moved and seconded the church meet here
on the first day of January next for the purpose of fasting and
praying in view of the election of two Deacons and the future
prosperity of Zion. Motion Carried. Conf. Adjourned to time in
course. M. S. Shirk, Mo., W. H. Gunby, C. Clk."
