Check out Edward Gerdes Civil War Arkansas for 24th Arkansas Infantry...two assistant cooks Job Belser and Andrew McDermott, both were listed as present Dec 31 1862 and last paid Aug 1862. On the link for the staff, it states when the regiment was captured at Arkansas Post Jan 1863 and sent to prison, federal records records the arrival as well as that of "one negro boy" ...had to be one of these two men. As to sources I can't say...all three people associated with this website have passed away. Bryan Howerton is the most likely person who recorded this from some source. His multitude of Arkansas records have been donated to the Butler Center for Ark Studies so it is in there somewhere probably.
