Could they have been engaged in the skirmish at Aiken ca 8 Feb 1865? Most of the fighting was done by Wheerler's cavalry against Kilpatrick. The other possibility is the engagement at Rivers Bridge and the skirmish at Orangeburg, as Sherman was closing in on Columbia. My recollection is that MGEN Carter Strevenson's division was engaged at those two places, as well as the skirmish at Congaree Creek just before the fall of Columbia. Purely from memory.
