Mr. Sturkey _ Thank you for your kind reply. The action at Aiken, of which I have no knowledge, could be a very likely candidate for consideration. The letter is dated only with the info "In bivouac near Augusta, February 1865" and the description of the action was, "Wheeler fought the Twentieth Yankee Corps and some cavalry on Saturday and Sunday, repulsing them handsomely on both days. The fight was some fifteen miles from Augusta."

If the days/dates match up, and Kilpatrick was XXth or cavalry then that well could be the event referenced in the letter I'm working with now. Although I believe Aiken is a bit further from Augusta than 15 miles.
