George, thanks for this information. Both Eli and Wilson had families on the 1860 census, so since Eli was drafted and Wilson was not, the only difference I can see is their age. Wilson was the older by two years. Perhaps he made it under the wire in regards to age in 1862 when the law came out, but by 1864 knowing he would now be required to report to duty, he must have just decided to enlist. All I can say is, those were mighty hard times. I have been reading through information, including letters, posted on this web site and it is truly incredible the hardships our ancestors had to endure. Thank you and all the others who contribute these amazing stories.
