Thanks for your reply and information. I had earlier taken a look at W. S. Edge's record thinking, as you did, that possibly it could be a handwriting or misreading issue. I had really hoped that would be the situation and it was actually W. J./William Jasper Edge, but I'm afraid it isn't. William Jasper Edge went to several Confederate reunions in Alabama in the early 1900's, which were written about in newspapers of that time period, and he was consistently quoted in all as having served in Macbeth's SC Light Artillery. I have a photo of his gravemarker that includes the same information. I tried unsuccessfully to add it to this message. I am perplexed about why he claimed to have this CSA military service yet nothing seems to exist today to support that.
