Re: 22nd SC Infantryman Grave Location

Dear Ed - I have been researching the military hospitals at Summerville for years and have been accumulating a list of deaths associated with the hospitals. There was a military cemetery located near U.S.Hwy 78 at Maple St. (west of town near the Westvaco sawmill). The site was named the "Oak Grove Cemetery" by the UDC. the ladies bought the land at the turn of the century and attended the graves into the 1920s. The minutes of the local UDC chapter are lost and the graves are currently unidentified. Recently the state archeologist used ground radar unsuccessfully to locate the gravesites.
I am interested in your knowledge of this piece of history, especially to know if you have supporting information that the remains were reinterred at Magnolia Cemetery. I hope to hear from you. Ed West
