No to all of the above. Just so you know, Confederate veterans resented being classed with home guards, which some civilians mistakenly did after the war. If you're interested, I will repeat what one aging Confederate had to say about home guards.

Before looking in the wrong places, try different spellings for the last name. 'Chapline' sounds like the name Chaplain, which is exactly where we find JBC. He served briefly with Co. "A", 16th South Carolina Regiment, receiving a discharge on May 1, 1862, due to illness. His widow's pension application confirms this. JBC's dates are June 16, 1847 - Apr. 3, 1913.
