Wade Hampton's Staff

Looking for information on Dr. David Means Clarke.
This is what we know:dob: abt 1833 in Winnsboro SC dod: aft 1878 in Augusta GA.
Family oral record: Joined by brothers, Osmond & Willliam and a cousin, Robert, joined the Fairfield Fencebles which was present at the surrender at Fort Sumter. Later they fought with General Wade Hampton for whom David Clarke acted in capacity as physician and surgeon.
He was stationed in Baltimore, a Col. on Gen Wade Hampton's staff in 1869.
From the UDC: date enlisted: 7/2/1862. Served in various hospitals in Richmond, VA. Was relieved from duty in General Hospital, Howard's Grove, Richmond, VA Sept. 8, 1864.
Census 1870: has him in Baltimore
