Fred, you are a genius! Thank you so much for pursuing this and figuring out that the prisoner was Thomas F Davis and not John F Davis. It just did not make sense to me that he could have been captured almost a year and a half after being discharged.

The application for the pension is another good example of the difficulty of reading handwritings, especially of elderly people as John F's widow would have been when she applied. Her name was either Rebecca Timothy or Timothy Rebecca (I'm not sure of the order) and she was called Timmey. I can see that might have been read as Tinnsey if it was a shaky signature.

Your explanation of how to use the search function showed me why I have been having so much trouble finding anyone. I am red-faced to admit that I had been entering names with first name first, as one does in the genealogy websites, instead of last name first. The problems caused by the aging brain!!
