Dear Hugh,

As always in an attempt to reward our contributors I'd like to offer the following recommendation. Mr. Alan Pitts, with whom you're probably familiar through the Alabama CW Message Board, also provides this service. From my experience, Alan is much faster, $10 less expensive and will go the "extra mile" to obtain the "full" soldiers record. When I say "full", I mean, Alan will look for alternative spellings of the name in the unit requested and will investigate to determine if the unit was part of another unit previously or afterward. That way, for instance, if your ancestor was first in a battalion that was grouped with other unit(s) to form a regiment, and if, the particular company your ancestor was in was later transferred to a third unit and ultimately in a consolidated unit at the end of the war, Alan will look for all possible references to a particular soldier's record.

Alan really gives a "personal" touch and I use him exclusively for Confederate Records and Alabama Pensions.

Just thought I'd offer my "two-cents worth".

Alan can be reached at cssoldier@hotmail.com
