My GG-Grandfather, George W. Ennis was mustered into the 5th U.S. Vol. Infantry, Company I. in 15 April 1865. He previously had enlisted as a private in Company G, 14th Regiment, Mississippi, Vols. Infantry, Jackson, Missaissippi in March 3,1863. He was captured at the battle of Nashville, Dec. 16,1864. He was sent to Camp Douglas, Dec. 24, 1864 and was mustered into the 5th U.S. Vols. as listed above. Most of his enlistment was spent at Ft. Riley, Kansas as a quartermaster clerk. He was mustered out Nov. 13,1866 at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. He went back to Mississippi and lived the remainder of his life in and around the Winston County area. He died in 1882 of T.B. contracted during the War.
